For lovers of Red Tractors.
It was 35 years ago today, May 14, 1985, that the very last International Harvester red tractor rolled off the line at the Farmall plant in Rock Island, IL. Here are few pictures of it.
Of course mid 1985 was smack dab in the eye of the hurricane of hurt that the 1980’s were to American agriculture. We understand that when circumstance and situation of dire nature conjoin to bring severe economic hardship our way that there will be loss. Significant and lasting loss. Some opt to call it change…which is true, but that makes it non the less painful for those involved.
So a pause today, 35 years down the road…

Amazing how time slides by so quickly, isn’t it? It was just 5 years later (1989) that I set out on my journey compiling auction sale prices on all types of equipment in hopes the data could be helpful to all in the ag space. Big Data way before anyone thought to call it Big Data.

More recently, the 1982 IHC 5488 2WD with 5272 hours pictured below, sold for $29,000 on an 8/31/19 farm auction in Durant, IA…$29K is record high auction sale price on a 2WD model 5488.
