John Deere 4455 in Kansas with 29K Hours Rebuilt To Like New

55 Series John Deere (1989-1992) are widely regarded as some of the best made, reliable, dependable, well loved Tractors ever made.

Bullet Proof is how folks often describe their 55 Series tractor to me. With a smile on their face.

In those same discussions over the past three and a half decades folks often tell me…“Pete, I wish Deere would come out with a New 55 Series (or 30, 40, 60 Series), I’d buy one in a heartbeat.” Of course exact same with Magnums (1987-1993) on the CaseIH side and same with similar age New Holland tractors as well.

No luck with Mfg’s make new modern versions of our favorite tractor models from the past.

…but you can always opt to make your favorite older tractor New again. That’s exactly what a Kansas farmer decided to do recently. He had a trusty old reliable JD 4455 with 29,839.3 Hours on it, just lost the rear main seal. The engine and the powertrain had never been touched. Just minor stuff fixed along the way…water pump, front wheel seals, load control seals, valve cover gasket.

He worked with Mongeau Farm Repair in Lacrosse, KS to restore his trusty old 4455. Kale Mongeau is a Twitter follower of Machinery Pete and reached out to me with the story. Kale’s father had formerly worked at local John Deere dealership and had done all the work on the owner’s 4455 over the past 25 years. Here are a few pics Kale sent me:

30+ Years Old and Like New Again.

Ready for the next 29K Hours.
