JD 8650 Tractor Sold High and S550 Combine Sold Low Today on Nebraska Auction

Truth: Every auction...some items sell High, some items sell Low.

Been that way forever.

Good example today (February 9, 2019) on the Joe & Judy Schlosser farm retirement auction in Shubert, Neb. On the HIGH side, wow, check out what the 1986 John Deere 8650 4WD tractor pictured below, with 3,780 hours, sold for: $39,750!

$39,750 is the highest auction sale price on a John Deere 8650 tractor in exactly 10 years, since a 1988 model 8650 with 3,924 hours sold for $47,000 on a 2/18/09 farm auction in south-central Minnesota. Here's a look at the Top 10 Highest Auction Prices on 8650's.

Ok, now for the other end of the spectrum. On the sale today was a 2013 John Deere S550 combine with 1,193 engine hours. Here's a picture of it:

Now, should point out that S550's are somewhat of a rare bird on the used market. I've only seen 19 of them sold at auction the past 5 years. In these situations with rare items, sale prices can cut either way...can go high as 4 buyers want it, but can cut the other way as not that many folks are familiar with them. Coming in to today's sale the average auction price on the last (8) S550's I'd seen sold at auction in 2017-2018 was $136,469 (High $184,000; Low $106,000). That $106,000 auction price was the lowest sale price I had seen.

Until today.

The 2013 model S550 today sold for $88,250.

As I said, every auction some items sell HIGH, other items sell LOW.
