Been some EYE OPENING auction sale prices on Skid Steers here lately.
Latest example came today, August 19, on my friends at McKillip Machinery (www.mckillipmachinery.com) consignment auction in Wabash, IN. They sold the sharp Case 1845C pictured below.
Case 1845C with 1144 hours, sold: $29,250
Pete’s Note: “$29,250 is 4th highest auction price ever on 1845C…but the 3rd highest the past 9 mo.”

Here’s Machinery Pete Youtube video of the record high price 1845C selling for $41,000 on 11/6/21 farm auction I covered in Keymar, MD by McGrew Equipment Company (www.mcgrewequipment.com), 2000 model with 641 hours.
That same 11/6/21 Keymar, MD farm auction saw another Skid Steer sell scorching Hot…2005 Case 465 with only 132 hours sold for $53,000 - new record high auction price by $29K over former high price ($24K) from auction 10 years prior.
Back to more very recent sale prices on Skid Steers…yesterday, August 18, on a farm auction in Luverne, MN, Chuck Sutton Auctioneer & Land Broker (www.suttonauction.com), this skid steer set a record - by a mile.
2008 Case 420 Series 3 with only 22 actual hours, sold: $42,000
Pete’s Note: “$42K is new record high auction price on 420 by whopping $19K”

The day before that, on Wednesday, August 17, this record price on a 10 year old Deere 328D skid steer came on an Alexandria, SD farm auction by Wieman Land & Auction (www.wiemanauction.com).
2012 Deere 328D with 840 hours, sold: $61,000
Pete’s Note: “$61K is new record high auction price on 328D by whopping $26,500, topped record price from almost 8 years ago”

And we’ll wrap up this blisteringly HOT week of record prices on good used Skid Steers with walk back to last Friday, August 12, where this Caterpillar model attracted wildly HOT bidding on farm auction in Ohio City, OH by Siefker Real Estate & Auctions (www.siefkerauctions.com).
2011 Caterpillar 289C with 640 hours, sold: $79,000
Pete’s Note: “$79K is new record high auction price on 289C - $25,500 over prior auction sale price of $53,500 from 3/14/18 Illinois auction”
Top reason driving these RISING sale prices on good used Skid Steers at auction is the historically tight supply of used units on dealer lots. You can see this visually represented in this chart from the back end of our www.MachineryPete.com web site. This chart goes back 2 years to August of 2020 on the far left, up to today. You can see the Blue Supply line moving lower, while the Orange Demand line (search traffic to Skid Steers for sale at MachineryPete.com) has moved higher. More buyers chasing fewer good used options. Recipe for RISING values we’re seeing. And of course let’s not forget to factor in the RISING cost and tight availability of New Skid Steers.
