Mrs. Pete got us one of those picture frames you can upload tons of your pictures to and it then slowly rotates the images, pic by pic, our lifetime of family memories cycling through a happy little picture frame.
Monday I was walking by and the pic in the frame caught my eye. I stopped for a bit. I watched the images roll by. I started to mentally tag each image…that was 12 Years ago. That pic was 22 Years ago…that one 8 years ago…oh man, that one 30 years ago.
Time sure does fly by.
25 Years Ago (2000) I’d already been compiling auction sale price data for 10+ years. I find it fascinating to look backwards in time and see what equipment was selling for 5, 10, 20, 25 Years ago.
May 2000, 25 Years ago this month…a sharp 1995 JD 8200 tractor with 3000 hours in excellent condition, MFWD, sold with GB 870 loader, sold for $60,750 on a 5/27/00 farm auction in Milesville, SD.
John Deere made the 8000 Series tractors, including the 8200, from 1995 to 1999. Here’s a look back the 6 Highest auction sale prices on JD 8200 Tractors the 1st 5 months of 2000 - 25 Years Ago:

You Know Where I’m Going With This…now check out the highest auction sale prices so far this year (2025) on JD 8200 Tractors:
HIGHEST AUCTION PRICES THIS YEAR ON JD 8200 TRACTORS
Wow.
(4) JD 8200’s with between 4305 - 5954 Hours have sold more $$ at auction so far this year than the highest auction sale price JD 8200 25 Years ago in 2000…that 1997 model with only 596 hours sold for $71,500 on Valentine’s Day 2000 farm auction in Paynesville, MN.
Imagine what a 1997 model JD 8200 with just 596 hours would sell for at auction today?
$$$$$$$$
Here are pics of few of the high selling JD 8200’s at auction so far this year.
1998 JD 8200 with 5954 hours, sold: $88,500 on 1/23/25, Sheffield, IL
1998 JD 8200 with 4500 hours, sold: $80,000 on 3/21/25, Woolstock, IA
1995 JD 8200 with 4305 hours, sold: $79,000 on 3/22/25, West Unity, OH
And consider these $79,000 - $88,500 auction sale prices on JD 8200’s have come early here in 2025 when things are very TIGHT in the ag economy. But has turned into one of the most interesting periods I’ve seen in my 35+ Years tracking and compiling auction sale price data. Despite New equipment sales being way, way off, for very understandable reasons…Good condition used tractors and other types of equipment have actually RISEN a bit in value since the calendar flipped over to 2025.
Interesting days indeed.
Best I can figure, and I think these very strong recent auction sale prices can attest, with things being tight in ag now and farmers pulling in the reigns on new equipment purchases, folks still have to farm their 500, 1,500, 5,000 or 50,000 acres. And Top of List things every farmer needs to do that…RELIABLE EQUIPMENT. The price of New has just gotten SO high over these past few years. Nosebleed $$$ High. All this works to increase the value on the older simpler pre-DEF, pre Tier IV stuff…like these $79,000 - $88,500 JD 8200’s sold here early in 2025.
I wonder what they’ll be worth in another 25 Years…2050. Hope I’m around to find out
Pete
