Challenger MT865C Track Tractor Sold Today on ND Auction - 2nd Highest Price Ever

12 1/2 years ago, on a July 25, 2012 auction in West Fargo, ND, the Steffes Group sold a 2010 Challenger MT865C track tractor with only 557 hours for $245,000. That sale price stood as the record high auction price on an MT865C for 10 1/2 years.

Now the past 2 years (5) MT865C’s have sold higher at auction.

Including a sharp 2014 Challenger MT865C with just 821 hours sold today (November 14, 2024) on the online farm estate auction for Howard McDaniel in Clyde, ND by the same auction firm, the Steffes Group. 2nd Highest auction price ever.

More proof here of one of my cardinal “Machinery Pete Rules” gleaned from 35 Years tracking and analyzing hard cash auction sale prices on all types of equipment…

MACHINERY PETE 10 YEAR OLD RULE - Tractors/Combines/Trucks/Sprayers/Skid Steers (anything with engine) in good condition with lower hours magically becomes much, much more desirable at the 10 Year old mark. The price GAP between nice 10 Year old unit and cost of New is a wide canyon. Makes the sharp 10 Year old unit very desirable. So at auction you get 2, 3, 5, 8 potential buyers that gotta have it…PRICE GOES UP.

Like today on the 10 year old 2014 Challenger MT865C with 821 hours selling for $305K.

I’ve written, blogged, talked about this Machinery Pete 10 Year Old Rule for decades now. Lot of folks thought this rule wouldn’t hold true once 10 Year old mark meant a Tier IV tractor with DEF.

Nope. Machinery Pete 10 Year Old Rule still holding true. I suspect it always will.
