I started doing TV the Summer of 2007. Here’s a pic from the very 1st TV filming I did in July '07.
Back then I was writing my Machinery Pete monthly auction price column for Successful Farming magazine and I helped them launch the “Machinery Show” on RFD-TV on Sunday nights. I had a 4 min. Machinery Pete segment during each episode. I knew nothing about TV. But I did know how to talk about equipment, farmers, dealers and auction sale prices which I’d been compiling since Nov. 1989. Was a blast from the start.
But I knew instantly that a 4 min. weekly TV segment was not going to begin to scratch the serious itch the tractor and equipment loving farm audience had for used equipment pricing, auction action and tractor/equipment stories. Knew I had to figure out a way to do my own weekly Machinery Pete TV show. Took me 6 more years to make that happen.
Machinery Pete TV show debuted on RFD-TV September 2013 (MachineryPete TV | Machinery Pete). Of course we had to start filming auctions prior to our 1st Machinery Pete TV show episode airing. The very 1st farm auction we filmed for our new show was April 13, 2013 in Hamersville, OH by Hess Auction Co.
10 Years Ago This Month.
As I was remembering that 4/13/13 Hamersville, OH farm auction today I got to thinking…wonder how sale prices on that very nice auction 10 years ago this month compare to auction sale prices in today’s red hot market? Here are a few sale price highlights from that day:
- 2008 JD 9670 STS combine, 411 engine hours, sold: $183,000
- 2007 JD 8130 with 375 hours, sold: $143,000
- 2009 JD 6430 Premium with 224 hours, loader, sold: $85,000
- 2007 JD 9220 4WD with 683 hours, sold: $143,000
- 2006 Timpte 40’ grain trailer, sold: $29,000
So the 2008 JD 9670 STS combine with only 411 engine hours went for $183K 10 years ago. Check out what the nicest JD 9670 STS combines have sold for at auction here the past 28 mo:
HIGHEST AUCTION PRICES ON JD 9670 STS COMBINES PAST 28 MO.
So $236,000 for this 9670 with 1185 engine hours (pictured below) on Windom, MN auction 3/17/22 - nearly triple the hours, nearly 10 years older and it went for $53K more…
If we talk JD 8130 tractors…that 2007 model 8130 with only 375 hours sold for $143,000 10 years ago at that time was the 3rd highest auction price ever on 8130. Here’s Machinery Pete Youtube video of it selling:
Compared to what JD 8130’s been selling for here lately…WOW.
HIGHEST AUCTION PRICES ON JD 8130 TRACTORS PAST 28 MO.
Here’s picture of the 2008 JD 8130 with 2194 hours sold for record price of $202,000 on the same 3/17/22 Windom, MN online farm auction.
That 8130 with only 375 hours if it sold today…?? $225K+ I’m thinking. So $80K+ more than it sold for 10 years ago this month.
Back to the 4/13/13 Ohio farm auction and the 2009 JD 6430 Premium tractor with just 224 hours and loader sold for $85,000. Check out the facts below to absorb that I’ve seen 'em go as high as $123,000 here lately with nearly 7 times the hours.
HIGHEST AUCTION PRICES ON JD 6430 TRACTORS PAST 28 MO.
Here’s picture of the 2011 JD 6430 with 1461 hours and loader sold for $123,000 on 8/18/22 Prescott, IA online farm auction.
On the Ohio farm auction 10 years ago this month a 2006 Timpte 40’ grain trailer in great condition sold for $29,000. I think you know where this is going…yep, it would be way more $$ today.
HIGHEST AUCTION PRICES ON 2003 - 2009 TIMPTE 40’ GRAIN TRAILERS PAST 28 MO.
Here’s pic of the 2009 Timpte 40’ sold for $50,500 on 7/28/22 online farm auction in Villa Grove, IL.
Pretty amazing to chew on the reality of how much the value of good condition used farm equipment has RISEN vs 10 years ago.
