New record high auction sale price set yesterday (July 12, 2019) on a beautiful 1988 JD 4050 tractor with 3057 hours sold on the David Thommes farm estate sale in Pierz, MN. Here’s a picture of it:
Sold for $60,000.
That is a whopping $14,000 above the previous high auction sale price I’d ever seen on a JD 4050 sold without a loader…$46,000 for a 4050 with 3085 hours (1 owner, oil changed every 60 hours) on a consignment auction November 15, 2012 in Strawberry Point, IA. Here’s a picture of that 4050 sold 7 years ago for $46K:
The record setting 4050 sold for $60K yesterday on the David Thommes farm estate auction was a sale by my good friends at Mid American Auction, Inc. (www.midamericanauctioninc.com). Auctioneer Al Wessel of Long Prairie, MN is one of the best in the biz. The Minnesota Hall of Fame auctioneer sent me a few additional pics of the 1988 model JD 4050 with 3057 hours sold for $60K yesterday:

Of course this record setting $60K JD 4050 yesterday did make me think of another record setter…the 1989 JD 4055 2WD tractor with, amazingly, only 215 actual hours, sold for record (by a MILE) price of $93,000 on a December 19, 2016 farm auction in St. Edward, Neb. It was purchased by a father and son team from South Dakota who bought it not to stick in a museum, but to use to bale hay. Here’s video of that $93K JD 4055 selling:
