If you follow my reporting at all, you know there has been continuing increasing farmer buyer demand for good condition older used farm equipment. This trend has been growing for years and feels like here recently the buyer demand curve has kinda gone skyward…straight up. Proof arrives daily in the form of very strong sale prices at auction for all manner of good condition slightly older used farm equipment. Just browse back through my blog for countless recent examples:

Likely to be more proof coming this Tuesday, January 5, 2021, on the Jonathan Cody Sutton online farm estate auction in Monroe City, IN by our friends at Sullivan Auctioneers. Here’s a link to the sale listing: https://www.sullivanauctioneers.com/auction/no-reserve-estate-auction-5/
“Extremely nice older stuff here Pete,” said Zach Hiner with Sullivan Auctioneers. “Tons of calls on the John Deere 4650 and also lot of talk on the CaseIH 1688 running a draper head.”
Here’s a picture of the 1984 JD 4650 with 4915 hours.
HIGHEST AUCTION PRICES ON JD 4650 TRACTORS PAST 5 YEARS (No attachments)
Pete’s Note: “Notice how the highest hard cash auction sale prices on 4650’s the past 5 years have all come in the last 22 mo. As I said…increasing buyer demand for good condition older used farm equipment”
Now also consider the last Machinery Pete blog I posted, yesterday (John Deere 4450 Tractor and 750 Drill Sold High on Iowa Auction), that highlighted the 2nd Highest auction price on a JD 4450 tractor in 5 years, a 1988 model 4450 with 5925 hours sold for $56,508 on a 12/3/20 farm auction in east-central Iowa. Not coincidentally, the all time record high auction sale price on a JD 4450 tractor was set just 2 months ago, on a 10/28/20 auction in Saskcatchewan where a 1988 JD 4450 2WD with only 256 actual hours sold for $94,725 (U.S).
Now, about that 1993 CaseIH 1688 4WD combine with 3218 hours on the Monroe City, IN online farm estate auction Tuesday…here’s a picture of it.
And as Zach Hiner said, lot of chatter about this 27 year old CaseIH 1688 combine running a draper head, in this case the 2009 CaseIH 2162 30’ flex draper head pictured below.
Older iron getting 'er done.
Here’s a look at the highest auction sale prices I’ve seen the past 4 years on 1668’s.
HIGHEST AUCTION PRICES ON CASEIH 1688 COMBINES PAST 4 YEARS
Online bid on the 1993 CaseIH 1688 combine already up to $17,750 this afternoon. Online bid on the 1984 JD 4650 tractor up to $28,000.
How high will they go? Stay tuned.
