Sold on an online auction week ago today, Monday, April 29, 2019 in western Iowa…2013 John Deere 8310R tractor with just 504 hours, IVT, warranty, like new. Here’s a picture of it:
It sold for $173,000. The auction was by our friends at the Iowa Auction Group: www.iowaauctiongroup.com.
Strong price there, but not the highest auction sale price so far this year on 8310R’s. Here’s a look over the past 4 years at 8310R values:
Avg. Auction Price on John Deere 8310R Tractors
- Data by www.MachineryPete.com
Now looking at the retail side of the value question…our Machinery Pete data shows the Current Avg. Dealer Advertised Price on John Deere 8310R’s = $163,491.
So, couple things here. First of all not really much of a price gap between the current Avg. Auction Price and current Avg. Dealer Advertised Price on 8310R’s, is there? Avg. Auction Price running right at 85.8% of Avg. Dealer Advertised Price currently.
Secondly, note how the Avg. Auction Price on 8310R’s really hasn’t slid much from the Avg. Auction Price 4 years ago, back in 2015…only down 7.7% in 4 years. Of course, important for us to note here that 2014 - 2015 was the period of the greatest drop in used farm equipment values I’ve seen in my nearly 30 years tracking auction sale price data. That period so high percentage of farm equipment dealers around the country with way too much large late model used equipment stuck on their lots. Many needed the wholesale auction route to pare down their used inventory. Hence, used values fell hard.
We also need to consider the age of 8310’s here in this discussion of data and holding used value so well. Deere made the 8310R model from 2011 - 2014, so at this point we’re now talking 5 - 8 years old. And as our auction sale price data has shown strikingly since November 2017…slightly older used equipment in very good condition has seen continuing strong buyer demand and very solid pricing, even through these trying times in the ag economy.
Mostly like BECAUSE of these trying times.
After all,…what’s a new 310 HP tractor cost today? Lot more than $140K, $163K, or $173K.
