Amazing stuff happening in the farm machinery auction world.
Forced into unprecedented change due to the COVID-19 emergency the past 2 weeks, with multiple state guidelines and regulations changing not daily, but hourly, and smack in the midst of the busiest time of year for farm machinery sales, auction firms and farmer buyers/sellers have shown amazing resiliency.
My good friends at Schrader Real Estate and Auction Company (www.schraderauction.com) had their 13th Annual Spring Consignment Sale in Willshire, OH on Wednesday (March 25, 2020). This sale had been originally scheduled for Saturday, March 21, but went from an on site auction with online bidding, to an online only auction with online and phone bidding. Schrader decided to push the online bidding ending out to Wednesday. Tough decision to make for sure. Myriad details involved. Over 800 pieces of equipment up for sale.
So how did the sale go?
Gangbusters.
Ritter Cox, my long time auctioneer friend with Schrader Real Estate and Auction Company, told me this morning, “Pete, the sale took 7 hours, we had 2 rings, 10 folks working the phone bids. 70% of the equipment wound up selling via phone bid.”

1984 JD 4450 with 5405 hours, sold: $56,000
Pete’s Note: “$56K is Highest auction price on JD 4450 in 4 1/2 years. Have to go back to 10/28/15 farm auction in Edinburg, ND to find a 4450 sold higher…that one had only 2400 hours and sold for $60,000”
